Location: Mt. Vernon, Illinois
I saw Colorado for the first time in my life on Thursday, and my first impression of it was that it's dead.
Seriously. The only thing that seems to be growing there is corn, and even that has to be irrigated to keep it alive.
But then we got to Colorado Springs, and I saw this:

Okay, so what if you can totally tell that I combined a bunch of pictures to make that.
It was my first time doing a manual panorama, and I had no idea that my camera would adjust its color between every shot.
Way better than any of those puny Appalachians, right?
While Lin dropped a load of cabinets off with a customer, I walked down the street to take a better look at the mountains and saw this along the curb:

"So apparently Colorado isn't completely dead," I told myself. But as I stepped up on the curb to take a picture of the flower, a million pieces of dead grass crunched beneath my flip-flops.
Still, right next to the flower was this:

I mean, it's not a pretty cactus or anything. But I'm from Ohio; I'm not picky about my cacti.
And you'd never see ANYthing like this in Ohio:

Anyone know what the hell it is? (
Not that you'd really want to see anything like that in Ohio.
But I would like to see this:

So death or no death, between the mountains and the sweetass speed limit, Colorado gets two thumbs up from me.

But I go 80.
I'm playing Rusian Ruelette with a ticket.
And just to conclude - your pictures look great. Have you tried using a photo editing program to make the pan-view pic more color matched?

BTW, I am glad you are proud of me for making OSU posts... I'm a little proud myself.

I never made it to the coast, but it turns out that just being in the truck was enough of an experience for me.

That's amazing.

It still just looks sort of dead to me.
But, uh, thanks.

Now that I'm thinking about it, pretty much everyone has SOMETHING awesome to offer.

Someday, I'll come visit you and you can show me these rad cacti yourself. In the meantime, you need to come TO ME.

I want to see those mountains so badly.
And I kinda like the multicolored version.

I'm pretty pumped about your journal, too. Especially the entries that include mention of your "nads".

I could've assumed you didn't want a comment, but I'm dense like that.
Have you thought of taking a greyhound? I mean, it's very movie-esque if you arrive in New York on a bus.
July 20 2005, 23:06:27 UTC 6 years ago
I would take a Greyhound, but airports are more glamourous in terms of making pretty movie scenes. And this will obviously be one of the major moments in the movie of my life.
